Vanessa Bleyer founded and leads Bleyer Lawyers, has and continues to work extensively in environmental law, has a long commitment to protection of the natural world, and is a Director of Kuno.

Ms Bleyer holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (politics). She practised for many years in well-established Victorian firms undertaking both transactional and litigation work prior to starting Bleyer Lawyers in 2007. She developed an interest in commercial and intellectual property law during a period from 1998 to 2001 successfully running Internet companies. She specialises in resolving disputes, commercial litigation, negotiating and settling commercial transactions and drafting all types of commercial contracts.

Ms Bleyer has also had a deep interest in conservation issues since the earliest years of her legal practice. She has made a consistent effort to acquire and develop particular expertise in conservation law, including as it applies in a commercial context. She works at every level of government, from local issues affecting municipal bodies to national issues affecting state and federal government, and further to advising international conservation bodies.

Ms Bleyer was the Chairperson of Environment Tasmania Inc from 2012 to 2015. From 2003 to 2007 she was the President of Lawyers for Forests Inc and returned as a committee member in 2021. From 2006 to 2012 she was a board member of the Architects Registration Board of Victoria. In 2006 and 2012, she was awarded the Law Institute of Victoria’s President’s Award for providing Access to Justice. She has been a member of the Greens Beach Advisory Committee to the West Tamar Council since its inception in 2015 and is Chair of the Northern Area Advisory Group to the West Tamar Council. In 2017 she became a board member of Community Care Tasmania and a Registered Migration Agent (MARN 1797686). In 2018 she was appointed to the Architects Registration Board of Victoria Tribunals Panel, and elected Chairperson of the Northern Area Advisory Group to the West Tamar Council. In 2022 she became a board member of Landcare Tasmania, and in 2023 she joined the board of Kuno.
